Wild abandon: check. Extraordinary sunrises: check. Sense of thrill: check.
I set out on a new adventure in late 2016 to a new state – Arizona. I knew nobody. I didn’t know what I was going to see. I had no plans. I was totally and completely free. I watched the most magnificent sunrises amongst white Christmas lit palm trees from my hotel at The Saguaro and shivered while letting my feet dangle over the Grand Canyon. I ignored the staff at my hotel advising me not to hike Camelback Mountain by myself in the pouring rain and I don’t regret it. I was completely awe struck by the sheer magnitude of the Grand Canyon. It was unlike anything I could have ever imagined and I cannot wait to go back.
I could have easily made an entire trip out of my stay at The Saguaro. It is unlike any other hotel I have ever stayed in before. It is bright and boisterous yet relaxing and serene at the same time. Every single staff member was more than welcoming and in every direction you turn, there was some sort of perfectly unusual decor that you couldn’t help but stare at. My inner bohemian child was squealing with joy.
I rented a car and relied solely on social media and Google Maps to get me where I wanted to go. Whenever I visit a new place, I immediately scroll through Instagram to see what people have posted about in real time. It’s a great way to really see what a place looks like and get a feel for the vibes in an area. I have found coffee shops, farmers markets, boutiques, salons, hiking trails, festivals, book stores, lakes, and mountain ranges based completely on the most recent posts on Instagram – it’s the best way to see what a spot looks like before you venture out!
